Thank you for all of the interesting links. I’m off to explore some of them now.

I’m intrigued that the Telegraph article about falling paperback sales takes the trouble of explaining what e-readers are, presumably for the benefit of any Martians who may happen to be reading. To anyone who doesn’t know, they “display virtual books that are downloaded from the internet.”

David, LOL! I wish newspapers credited their readers with more intelligence too.

These are great – thanks for all the links!

  4. Great links, Jackie, thanks! I’d like to proffer that one reason for the decline in the sale of printed books (they didn’t say so but I bet they’re talking about new books) is the rise of the second hand market. I buy most of my books secondhand now, I know I shouldn’t because authors need the royalties, but at £8 a pop or more for a new paperback it isn’t that surprising that more and more people are only buying new when it’s a book they can’t wait to read.

Victoria, I think it is mainly due to the rise of Ebooks. Is the second hand market growing? I have always bought second hand so my taste hasn’t changed much over the years, but I’d be interested to know if the economy is changing the habits of other buyers.
