10,000th Comment Celebration!

I am really happy to see that I have nearly 10,000 comments on my blog. Reading all your comments is my favourite part of blogging and I wouldn’t carry on without them.

Thank you to everyone who has left a comment on my blog – you make it the special place it is!

To celebrate, the people at Discount Coder.com have offered to give a £20 Amazon Voucher to my 10, 000th commenter.

There are less than 100 comments left to reach the target, so hopefully there will be a lucky winner at some point in the next few days.

GOOD LUCK!

Expect to see a lot of me over the next couple days. Any other stats you can offer us? Like, how many comments did you get in your first year of blogging compared to this past year? When did comments really start to pick up?

Lija, I haven’t kept any record of how many comments I had at any particular time, but agree that it would be interesting to see when things really took off. I’ll see if there is an easy way to work out how many I got each month, but if not I’ll count a few months for you!

Claire, Congratulations Claire! It sounds as though you’re on target to a get a similar number to me over the same time period. I look forward to your 10,000th comment celebration very soon!

Sandy, I’m afraid I have no idea how to know how many comments you get in blogger – WordPress tells us in big numbers how many posts/comments we have at that moment in time.

That’s impressive… According to my calcs that’s about 588 comments a month, although I take it half of those comments are your own — ie. when you respond to each comment visitors have left, no?

My book blog’s attracted almost 9,000 comments … and I’ve been book blogging since 2005!

kimbofo, You’re right – that does include my comments. I estimate that I made about 1/3 of the comments, as in the beginning I didn’t respond to comments, and then moved onto responding to lots of people in a single comment.

WordPress gives us lots of fun (and useful!) stats, but I’ve long wanted the ability to exclude my own comments from the count (or at least know the number, so I can exclude on my own). That’s one stat they haven’t provided yet. (Unless there’s a plugin for self-hosted … )

Aarti, Yes – that includes my own comments as well. I’m going to try to export all my comments into excel, so I can work out how many I made and how many I got each month.

I have no idea how many comments my blog has gotten (I’m on Blogger, which has no means for tracking that), but I’m sure it’s nowhere close to 10,000 – maybe 1000, over three years. But since today is Delurker Day, I thought I’d bump your comment count up by one more – congrats on reaching such an impressive milestone!

Congrats! I recently discovered your blog and this is my first comment. I look forward to posting many comments in the future 🙂
