You might notice that I’ve made a few changes around here. The annoying thing is that most of them are behind the scenes, so as you won’t be able to tell what has taken up so much of my time this weekend. I hope you can notice a slight difference though.
Here is what I’ve done.
- Changed my blog theme to one which supports threaded comments and performs better in the search rankings.
- Upgraded to Word-press 2.8.
- Found and added new plug-ins after I discovered half of my old ones didn’t work with Word-press 2.8!
- Added a broad column above the two single ones in my sidebar.
- Changed a few of the things I display in my sidebar.
It has taken me ages, but I am really pleased with the results.
The main thing I am really excited to have achieved is that I have now made the front page for people googling ‘book blog’ in the UK.
There are still a few things that aren’t quite as I’d like them, but I think I’ll leave them for another day!
A Few Links
Thanks to Cornflower Books for finding this link to the most Beautiful Libraries in the world
On a similar theme I have just discovered the RobAroundBooks Blog. He has a great bookshelf of the week feature along with lots of other interesting bookish posts. If you’ve never heard of him before, then go and take a look – I think you’ll like what you see!
A Few Books Which Have Caught My Eye
Violet from VioletCrush recommended My Father’s Paradise by Ariel Sabar. I liked the sound of this one so much I bought a copy!

.
Stuck in a Book recommended Parents and Children by Ivy Compton-Burnett. I bought this one too!
Megan from a little breeze recommended Wanting by Richard Flanagan. I’ll buy this one when it gets a bit cheaper!

Your blog looks awesome…way to go on all of your hard work! You’ve got some great links and discovered books as well. Honestly, I am feeling so overwhelmed right now with the number of books I want to read, plus I keep accepting more review copies. I am tempted daily to join read-alongs and challenges…there aren’t enough hours in the day! Near the top of my list is the one you just sent me…I can’t wait to dive in!
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the number of books I want to read at the moment too. It doesn’t stop me buying new ones though! I plan to read Sugar Cage soon – I’m really interested to see what it’s like. I hope you like Random Acts of Heroic Love. I think you’ll find it good, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll love it.
This Rob guy sounds awesome. I’ll have to meet him someday :o). Seriously though, thank you for the ‘link love’ and the very kind words. I’m sure they’re not deserved but I’ll grab them anyway.
As for Farm Lane Books, I like what you’ve done here. And although I share your pain when it comes to doing so much background work that no one ever sees, I can see plenty of positive changes on here.
So for what it’s worth – well done and keep up the good work!
Happy Reading
Rob
Thank you! You do deserve all the positive comments, as your blog is great! You have even tempted me to read some Guy de Maupassant!
Your new sidebar layout looks great, Jackie!
I love Rob’s blog, most especially his Cover Love feature! There’s so much to discover there. 😀
your blog is just great; i like the changes.
I’m a dork when it come to stuff like this but if you’re getting on the first page of UK google as a book blog, then you are doing something right!
You’ve been busy! The new sidebar looks great, and thanks for the link to Rob’s blog. I’ll have a look around.
LOVE the changes in the side bar, somehow I always notice them.
Congrats on the award 🙂
and thanks for the linky 🙂
I first heard about My Father’s Paradise over at Jewishes’ blog. It sounds very good.. I’m hoping to convince my book club to read it soon.
Enjoy tweeking and tinkering with your blog.
I’m pleased you all like it! It makes the effort worth it!
Hope you enjoy My Father’s Paradise! I read it last year and it was fantastic–really fascinating.
