I am clueless on social media. I use LibraryThing for books, Ravelry for knitting and Last.fm for music. That plus my blog takes up as much time as I can spare! I hadn’t noticed your Virtual Bookshelf but now you have pointed me there, yes I very much like it.
I signed on to Facebook last fall, at the encouragement of my hairdresser. Like you, I was a bit obsessed with it at first. Long lost friends, boyfriends, etc. were popping up on a daily basis from all over the world. Very cool. I am still on it, but I’m not as nutty about it as I used to be. Despite some pressure, I have refused to join Twitter. I’ve heard it is like Facebook on speed, and that didn’t sound so good.
I used to use Orkut a lot. That is more popular than facebook in India. I was excited at the start but then after sometime when you have re-established ties with all your old friends i didn’t see any use for it except taking up unwanted time. I have a facebook account too but rarely log in to it. I had never tried the visual bookshelf widget but I do use Shelfari and goodreads a lot. It helps me keep track of my books 🙂
I don’t use Facebook, it would be too hard to separate my online self from my professional self there.
Frankly, I haven’t really paid that much attention to your visual book shelf, but I do look at currently reading and TBR.
Beth – I love the way you’re so mysterious! I like to think you’re a really famous person, or one of my favourite authors! Don’t spoil my dream!
Violet – I’ve never heard of Orkut before, but then there are lots of things I haven’t heard of!
I’ve had a look at shelfari and goodreads, but don’t think I have enough time for them at the moment.
I read your visual bookshelf occasionally. What I really like is your visual shelf header. Even though I may have just looked at it yesterday I will look again today. It just fascinates me!
I’m completely ignorant when it comes to Facebook. Based on your experience, I’m going to stay that way. I don’t need one more obsession.
Facebook just started to get big when I was a freshman in college, so I’ve been playing with it for awhile. It’s sort of sad how addicting it is. I’ve never seen Visual Bookshelf though, thanks for pointing it out.
I LOVE facebook. I use it every day. I grew up all over the world so there is no chance that I could ever be in touch with classmates and friends from all my schools without facebook. I update my status regularly and check changes in status for friends regularly too. I used to be obssessed with it, but have calmed down now and only use it for keeping in touch.
Hi Jackie,
I am a product manager at LivingSocial, and wanted to let you know we also have a more visual widget available. You’ll need to go to our external site (livingsocial.com), but it gives you several more options.
