Have you written any fabulous post titles recently?

The current Blog Improvement Project task is to write a blog post with an eye-catching title. If you’d like to be entered into the best title poll you have until midnight tomorrow to add yours to Mr Linky on the BIP site. There are some great posts already listed, so even if you aren’t taking part in the project it is worth browsing through them.

In the spirit of the magazines we’re supposed to be emulating I’ll let you know that my title is going to be:

101 book group choices guaranteed to provoke discussion

Come back tomorrow to see which books I’ve chosen!

Thanks for the reccommendation! I haven’t read any Douglas Copeland, but I remember a friend telling me that if bees became exctint, it would create numerous problems in the world. Interesting…!

Thanks for the link to BIP–I need reminders like this.

    1. Jackie says:

Jeanne, Good luck with the task!

Interesting… but the BIP post goes completely against the current thinking that online magazines/newspapers are doing in regards to headlines. If you want people to find your post, the headline should be SEO-friendly. In other words, contain key words that people type into search engines rather than anything “clever” or “arty” or “intriguing”. These kind of headlines might be boring but they work in terms of getting more people to your site.

    1. Jackie says:

kimbofo, It is very important for SEO to get key words into the title of the post. All review posts should have the title and author in the post title, but this task is about non – review posts. Notice I have still managed to get the keywords – “book group choice” into my title. It is possible to do both.

  4. Violet says:

I have the hardest time coming up with titles for my posts :)

    Yours sounds intriguing though.

    1. Jackie says:

Violet, Luckily I don’t have to come up with exciting post titles very often – most of mine are just book reviews.

  5. Nicole says:

101 titles is a tall order. I have to go back and start tracking what I like more closely because I can never remember beyond the most recent thing that I have read- unless I go back to childhood. That seems to be the exception.

    1. Jackie says:

Nicole, That is one of the best things about having a blog! I love being able to go back to see what I thought of a book.

  6. Rebecca Reid says:

The post title that got the most views for me was my “First Vlog” title the other day — not so much the title as the concept of people curious to see what I looked like!

I need to have more non-reviews posts, but I have been reading so much lately, most end up reviews! Always good to remember to have variety though.

    1. Jackie says:

Rebecca, I often find that I read more than I can review in a week. It is good because it persuades me to pick up something a bit longer!

I’m not surprised that your first vlog got lots of views – it is great to see the face behind the vlog – perhaps I should do one soon.
