February Summary and Plans for March

I finished 11 books in February. The quality was surprisingly evenly distributed, with a range of fantastic books and a few I didn’t enjoy at all.

If you get the chance then I highly recommend you read Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and Rupture by Simon Lelic they are both fantastic!

Plans for March

I got a bit distracted by the TV Book Club in February, so didn’t manage to read many of the books I planned to at the beginning of the month. Most of my plans are identical to last month – sorry to all those who are waiting for me to read things from this list, I really do hope to get to them soon!

Small Island – Andrea Levy

The Little Friend – Donna Tartt

The Woman in the Dunes – Kobo Abe

My Father’s Paradise – Ariel Sabar

The Native Hurricane – Chigozie John Obioma

The Hiding Place – Trezza Azzopardi

The Love We Share Without Knowing – Christopher Barzak

I’m going to finish reading:

Bonk: The Curious Coupling Of Sex and Science – Mary Roach

July’s People – Nadine Gordimer

The Blasphemer – Nigel Farndale

I am also hoping to read some of these:

So Much for That – Lionel Shriver

Pocket Notebook – Mike Thomas

Marcelo in the Real World – Francisco Stork

Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim – David Sedaris

The Solitude of Prime Numbers – Paolo Giordano

My Driver – Maggie Gee

Have you enjoyed any of the books I plan to read in March?

A good month then despite the dismallness of the time of year! I’m looking forward to you reading the Azzopardi as I enjoyed her first book very much when I eventually read it. And as I think I said before The little friend is extremely good.

Verity, I often think it is easier to read when the weather is dismal! I think I did well considering how busy I have been – it has been a great month!

Good month! I had a slowish one; it took me a whole week at the beginning of the month until I managed to settle down and finish anything. Slump aside though, it included some good books.

I’m looking forward to reading Cutting for Stone on your recommendation and hearing about the others, some of which I know nothing about.

Claire, I would have read more in February, but Cutting for Stone took me about 8 days to read. It is worth the effort though, so I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, I just ordered a couple more Sedaris audios for my delight and pleasure. I can’t wait to hear about this one, although I am pretty sure they all leave you in the same state of mind (hilarity, awe, love, and in need of hanging with my gay friends). The man is a comedic genius I think. You had a great month for sure. Lots of good books added to my list!

Sandy, I have just listened to the first chapter of Sedaris and it isn’t anything like how I expected it to be, but I am sure I will love it. I’m looking forward to adding the rest of his books to my wishlist!

Haven’t read any of your upcoming books for the month of March, so hopefully you’ll discover some great ones that I’ll then have on my radar! Tony did recently read The Solitude of Prime Numbers and had mixed feelings about it, so I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts about it. By all accounts it was a page turner, so in that sense I’m sure you’ll be pleased! 😉

Steph, It is good to know that Prime Numbers is a page turner – I expected it to be quite a slow, thoughtful book. I’m looking forward to it more now!

My plans are always going by the wayside so I completely understand!! And I can’t wait to see what you think of “Bonk.” I read her book “Spook” earlier and really enjoyed her approach to writing. I plan on reading “Stiff” fairly soon too.

Jenners, I’m loving Bonk so far. I actually have a copy of Stiff here, but was scared to read it. Now I’ve experienced her light, entertaining style I think I will be much more tempted to read it.

Wow, what a reading month you had! I’m also looking forward to reading So Much For That when it comes out. I love Lionel Shriver. I also loved Cutting for Stone and am doing a giveaway of it right now!

Julie, I have a very hit-miss relationship with Lionel Shriver’s books. I think this is likely to fall into the miss category based on the beginning – I hope it picks up towards the end.

anothercookiecrumbles, I really hope that you enjoy Rupture as much as I did. 3 books isn’t many – you can knock them off and buy a copy of Cutting for Stone within a week or two 😉

mee, I always planned to read it along with you in Feb, but I didn’t manage to squeeze it in. I hope to read it at some point soon, but it probably wont be before you post your review.
