I’m taking a blogging holiday!

I’m taking a blogging holiday! In the next few days it is my oldest son’s birthday and my husband’s birthday. We have lots of exciting celebratory plans, so I am going to take some time away from the computer.

I am then heading off to the Cheltenham Book Festival. I’m very excited to be seeing Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and also Kate Mosse. I haven’t read any of Kate’s books, so am trying to squeeze Labyrinth in before her talk.

Then, next Tuesday I am going to see Audrey Niffenegger with Claire. We’re very excited!

I will have access to my computer, so may pop in to see your blogs, but I’m going to try to avoid posting for the next week/ten days.

Have a great week!

Have a great week, Jackie! We’ll miss you, but just think of the great blog posts you’ll have after this exciting week :)

    1. Jackie says:

Wendy, I’m not sure how I’m going to fit them all in! I hope to read lots of books so I may have to do more than one post a day when I get back.

  4. Nicole says:

I am so excited for your blogging holiday. I know how good it can be to get away for a little bit. Sounds like you have a great week lined up. Enjoy!

    1. Jackie says:

Nicole, It is going to be weird living without blogging – it will be interesting to see how much I miss it.

  5. Claire says:

      avisannschild, Thank you!

  8. Louise says:

Have a great week, Jackie, and happy celebrations. I have been down and out for almost a week myself with the flu (although I could also have been a very nasty cold – who knows) and am just starting to feel a bit better now. Still sneezing and coughing though. Sounds great with your bookish plans. I look forward to hear more about it :)

    1. Jackie says:

Louise, Sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well. I hope you’re fully recovered soon.

  9. Trish says:

Enjoy your time away from blogging. Your plans sound wonderful. (Have fun with Claire).

    1. Jackie says:

thanks Diane, I’m sure Audrey Niffenegger will be great!

  12. Meghan says:

Hope you have a great week, Jackie!! A blogging holiday is necessary sometimes, especially when you have such plans. =)

    1. Jackie says:

Meghan, I do still have access to my computer all week, but I decided that I should focus on my family and take away even the thought of blogging. I’m not sure it is going to work – I am addicted to it, but I’m going to try!

  13. That sounds like fun. Enjoy the celebrations, and the festival.

A friend who has read both, Sepulchre and Labyrinth recommended the former over the latter, and I quite enjoyed it. I think you might be questioning my random taste in books again (lol), but Sepulchre was actually really interesting, and I read it fairly quickly.

Both books are supposed to have similar plots though….

    1. Jackie says:

anothercookiecrumbles, You do have random reading taste – I would never have guessed you’d like it! I happened to have a copy of Labyrinth already, which is the only reason I chose to read that one. It is probably a waste of time, as I’ve just noticed that she has a new book out. I’m sure she’ll talk about that one instead, but at least I’ll get a feel for her writing. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it!

  14. She says:

    Have a good vacation!

    1. Jackie says:

      She, thank you!

  15. Madeleine says:

Have fun! Don’t hesitate to post and tell us how Audrey is, as I’m planning on driving an hour (a.k.a. making my mom drive an hour because I don’t have a liscense yet) to see her in January. I’m reading “Her Fearful Symmetry” right now, and enjoying it–apart from the few oddly sexual comments that I’m planning on never reading again (I summarized the chapters on the first page of the chapter to ensure I don’t feel the need to reread those awkward parts). I never read “The Time Traveler’s Wife” because it was a bit too “grown-up” content-wise. I enjoy Niffenegger’s style, though. It’s frank and fun. Enjoy yourself and read!

    1. Jackie says:

Madeleine, I’ll let you know if she is worth the drive! It isn’t that close to my house either, but I’m sure she’ll be worth it.

I hope you enjoy the Time Traveller’s Wife at some point. It is really good!

      1. Madeleine says:

My mom said it looked corny. ( : Maybe it wasn’t! I just know that the content was a bit more than I can handle (I’m hardly a teenager, so you understand!). I’ll be looking forward to reading your feedback!

  16. Beth F says:

Have a super fabulous week. Sounds like lots of fun and lots of great things going on.

    1. Jackie says:

Beth, Thank you! My son is so excited about his birthday! It is going to be great fun. Have a nice week!

  17. Have a great time, Jackie! Happy birthday to your son and husband. Enjoy the book festival! I look forward to hearing what you think of Labyrinth.

    1. Jackie says:

Literary Feline, I’ll pass your message on! Thank you! I predict that I’ll enjoy Labyrinth, but not love it. I’ll let you know my thoughts at the end!

  18. JoAnn says:

Have a wonderful time, Jackie! Happy Birthday wishes to your husband and son…looking forward to hear about the bookish activities.

  19. Jenners says:

Enjoy your time off! I think it is good for every blogger to do that every so often! And I have to say I’m a little bit jealous of your chance to see Ms. Niffenegger. Enjoy.

  20. Enjoy the celebrations and Audrey! My birthday is this week as well. A great time of the year. :)

  21. Melody says:

Enjoy your blogging break, Jackie! Sounds fun!

  22. Carrie K. says:

    Have a wonderful holiday!

  23. I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on Labyrinth too. I read it recently (last year?) and thought it was interesting, but I didn’t love it. I warn you that there is one chapter that is very disturbing (I don’t know how squeamish you are, but I could have done without that chapter!).

  24. Verity says:

Have a great break! Envious of all of those bookish events you have lined up…

  25. Dot says:

Have a lovely blogging holiday, sounds like you have lots of exciting things planned! xx

  26. Joanna says:

Have a great time, your plans sound great!!

  27. Enjoy your time! :)

I’ll look forward to what you think of Labyrinth. I loved it — Sepulchre, too!!

  28. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Labyrinth. It’s another one that’s been on my shelves forever.

  29. Kim says:

Have a lovely time on your blogging break and enjoy your family. Speak to you when you get back.

  30. Belle says:

Have a good time on your blogging holiday!

ohhh…lots of celebrations and author sightings. Love it!!!

    pictures please???

  32. Simon S says:

Have a lovely time off Jackie!

  33. Andreea says:

Enjoy your blogging holiday! BTW, I just finished Her Fearful Symmetry and I loved it!

  34. I look forward to reading about all your exploits when you get back, Jackie (even if you’re taking a break from blogging, I guess you’ll want to share soem of your thoughts on what you’ve seen, and heard .
    Have a wonderful time!

  35. I forgot to leave you a comment — have a wonderful break!

  36. Jackie says:

Thank you for all your kind words! I had a lovely blogging holiday!

  37. BookRambler says:

I’ve bumped Her Fearful Symmetry nearer the top of the tbr pile because I really enjoyed The Time Traveler’s Wife – so I’m intrigued to hear what Niffeneger is like in person.
I’ve read Labyrinthe – felt it a tad too long but enjoyed the newness, the setting, characters and easy narration. Mosse always seems such a nice person but again – good to get face to face feedback.
Have a good break – although, you’re never more than arms length from a good book.

    1. Jackie says:

BookRambler, I enjoyed Her Fearful Symmetry, but it wasn’t as good as TTW. I’ll try to write a review in the next few days – perhaps I’ll combine it with a summary of her talk.

I look forward to finding out what Kate Mosse is like too!

Don’t worry – I have several good books at arms length!

  38. Michele says:

    Have a fabulous time!!!

  39. Karen says:

Hi Jackie – just as I come back to the blogging world you take a break! Hope it was a good one, looking forward to hearing all your news – especially your thoughts on Her Fearful Symmetry. I just finished it and although I want to think about it a little more before I post about it my initial feeling is (unfortunately) disappointment.
