I’m going to Edinburgh….

edinburgh

Tomorrow morning I’m travelling up to Edinburgh for the festival. I’ve got a few comedy nights booked and will hopefully manage to catch a few book events too.

I’m taking a laptop, so hopefully will be able to keep blogging as usual, but just in case the Wi-Fi doesn’t work I thought I’d let you know where I’ve gone!

Have you ever been to the Edinburgh festival?

Do you like seeing live comedy?

Who would you rather see – your favourite author or your favourite comedian?

I haven’t been to the festival myself (despite living only an hour away until last year). My boyfriend lived in Edinburgh last year though and went to so many comedy events- he had an incredible time. He also tried in vain to buy us tickets to see Terry Pratchett at the film festival but they sold out in seconds.

This year I was tempted to see Neil Gaiman again but I’ll wait until he’s next in London. For me it would be favourite author always.

Neil Gaiman had sold out by the time I organised this trip – such a shame as I’d have loved to see him.

Jackie, according to Neil Gaiman’s Twitter feed the post-event signings at the book festival are open to everyone, ticketed or not. Thought you’d like to know! Hope you’re having fun. Walk along George Street for me please.

I love Edinburgh too!
I’m not sure I’d want to move there though – those hills are a nightmare with the pushchair and it is so cold!

I’ve never been to Edinburgh, but I would love to go. I’m so jealous! If it were me, I’d see the author any day! Take lots of pictures and I will await all the juicy stories you’ll bring back. Are you going with your family, with your friends or by yourself?

I’m going with the family – husband, two boys and the in-laws. So we’ll be able to take turns babysitting! It will mean that half the time we’ll have to be back to put the boys to bed at 7pm, so plenty of long evenings for blogging/reading!

Jealous!!!

Hope you have a great time Jackie.

I like watching anything live. Really. I can watch and enjoy hard rock live too, something which I absolutely hate otherwise.

I can watch all sorts of things live too. I think it is just the atmosphere that makes everything more enjoyable.

When I went to Edinburgh, my tour guide said she came for the festival and never left. I want to go back there so badly! Terrible weather, but somehow still awesome. 🙂

I’ve never been. I wanted to go this year since I’m actually close enough for it to be somewhat possible, but now I’m too poor! Maybe next year. I hope you enjoy it!

I love live comedy (saw The Mighty Boosh 3 times last year). I had the utter privilege when I were a lad (10 years ago, anyway) of teaching RS A level to Miles Jupp, who went on to become Archie in Balamory as well as an Edinburgh regular. He was the funniest man I’ve ever met, and made every lesson a joy (fortunately he was bright enough to get an A despite spending lessons amusing me – it was one to one, so there were no other poor sods to distract). Go and see him if you get the chance. I think comedians have something authorsdon’t, without lacking any of the things we do have – it’s like they’re super-smart-clever-narratively-gifted…and then some. Leaves me marvelling.

I love comedy too. While I love listening to authors they aren’t natural entertainers (in general, although I know some are very good) I’m really looking forward to seeing some good comics in Edinburgh.

Hi Lizzy – I’d love to meet you. I’m staying with my sister tonight and meeting up with the in-laws tomorrow. I’ll send an email to you once I’ve met up with the in-laws as I’ll need to work out our plans for the week and when they will be available for baby sitting. I look forward to seeing you soon!

I haven’t been to the festival, but I HAVE been to Edinburgh! Loved it!

I like comedy fine… IF they can be funny AND clean at the same time, which it seems takes even more talent these days. Being dirty funny is a cop out imho.

Definately the author, since I really don’t have a favorite comedian.

I like my comedy to be original – almost all of the dirty jokes have been told before, so agree with you about prefering clean jokes. I’m really looking forward to spending some time in Edinburgh.

What fun!! We love comedy and have gone to a few live shows to see famous people. The local “comedy club” is a bit too lame for our tastes. But a festival would be great.

I hope to be in Edinburgh next year. Super photo.

Sounds like a wonderful time … and honestly, I’d rather see my favorite comedian than my favorite author! I’ll just read what my author has written … I would rather laugh!
