I’m trying to put a bit more effort into completing my TBR challenge pile. So when Kathrin from Cozy Murders suggested a buddy read of Half of a Yellow Sun, I jumped at the chance! I now have some motivation for reading it, as having someone else to share the experience always increases my enjoyment of a book.
We have decided to start reading it in the first week of May, getting to the half way point on 7th May, and hopefully finishing it on 14th May. If anyone else would like to read along with us, then we would love the opportunity to share our thoughts with you!

While I was writing this post I discovered that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s new book The Thing Around Your Neck has just been released here. I was really looking forward to reading it, and assumed it was being released in June, as that is the date I had seen everywhere in the blogging world. The good news for me is that it is released earlier here in the UK, so I have just ordered a copy! Hopefully I’ll manage to read this in the next few weeks. The bad news for those of you in the US is that you still have a couple of months to wait!!

I’ve read Half of a Yellow Sun and I thought it was really great. I still need to read Purple Hibiscus and I’m excited she’s coming out with another one.
Cool idea to have a buddy read. 🙂 I’m interested in seeing yalls thoughts.
I’ve had this one on my shelves for a while too…but I won’t have time to read it with you. 🙁 I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it though.
Laza – I really enjoyed Purple Hibiscus, and have heard that Half of a Yellow Sun is even better, so am really looking forward to it.
Melissa – I’m sorry you can’t join us, but I know what it is like to have too many books to read. I’m not sure I could squeeze anything else into May now!

I’ve read Half of a Yellow Sun so I won’t join you in the read along this time but I will be loking forward to hearing your thoughts on the novel – I really enjoyed it when I read it last year – a great read and an educational experience I think. I haven’t read the new book of short stories as yet but it is actually out in Australia at the moment (WOW!! I am a little excited about this because it is rare that we get anything before the rest of the world!!). I’m planning to read this one before I go and hear the author speak at the Sydney Writers Festival next month – very excited!!
I read this book in January and loved it. It’s probably going to be my favorite book of 2009. I confess I would not have been a good read-a-long participant because I could not put it down. Read it all in two days.
Oh you are going to love this book… well I hope you do! I think its possibly one of the best books I have read in years and years. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. I am very excited about her new one, but am waiting till paperback as am watching the book budget… ok I am not the non reader is!
I really want to read this one but we are moving next week so I will not be able to commit. I will anxiously await reading your feedback though!

Hi Jackie, this is on my May reading list, so it’s perfect timing, I would love to read along with you. However, I’m a bit horrible at the dates. Either I will finish early or late, and not exactly at the appointed time, so I hope you don’t mind. 😀
Karen – It is great when we get books before other places, as it is so often the other way round – that is why I thought I’d make the most of it by reading it as soon as possible.
CBJames – I really hope it is as fast paced as that for me, but I’ll be strong, and make sure I don’t finish it too quickly.
Simon – The paperback is out in October here, so it isn’t that long to wait really. I’ll let you know if it is going to be worth the wait.
Diane – Good luck with your move! The great thing about blogging is that you can still view all the comments when you do get round to reading it.
Lu – I know what you mean. Sometimes I wish that I was still reading some books – they are so good you envy people who haven’t read them.
Claire – It’s great to hear that you can read along with us! Don’t worry about the timing – I’m normally pretty bad at sticking to other peoples reading speeds too. I’m sure reading the together will make it much more interesting. I’m looking forward to it!

Jackie, I would have love to read-along with ya’ll. However, the dates don’t really work for me — they’re actually right in middle of Advanced Placement exams. I’m excited to read your thoughts, though, and I’ll try to remember to add my own when I get around to it later in May.
