Buy a Friend a Book Week – Giveaway!

I’ve just discovered that it is Buy a Friend a Book Week. To celebrate I’m going to give away a well-loved copy of Ingenious Pain by Andrew Miller.

The book is set in the mid-18th century and follows the central character,  James Dyer, through England, Europe and Russia. James Dyer is a fascinating character, who is incapable of feeling physical pain. This is a gripping book that questions whether it is better to feel pain, or never know what it is like to experience it. It is one of my favourite books, but you don’t just have to take my word for it, other people think it is amazing too –  it won the James Tait Black Memorial prize and the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 1997.

This is an international giveaway.

In order to enter, just leave a comment below AND one somewhere else on my blog before midnight on Wednesday 8th April.

Good luck!

Don’t enter me. I acquired a copy of this through book swapping a while back and I’m so glad it’s as good as I had hoped. I must hunt it up and read it now. Thank you for the reminder.

Don’t enter me in the drawing – but I did want to thank you for bringing this special event to my attention. I have a good friend who just started following my blog – and will probably start following lots of other blogs as well (she is hooked!) – and I really need to buy her a book as a special thank you. Now I can tell her that there is an “official” reason for the gift 🙂

Molly – It’s so nice that you are buying a book for your friend. Unfortunately very few of my ‘real life’ friends read – I have hundreds of books they could read here, if they were interested, but they aren’t. So I’ll have to buy a book for a virtual friend instead!

Sandra – I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did, and thank you for having a good look round my blog!

This sounds like a wonderful book. I’d love to have my name in for a chance to win it. Thanks.
I’ve commented on a couple of your recent posts, and added you to my Google Reader.

I’ve been looking for this book in our bookstores. Would love to take it off my wishlist. 🙂 Please include my name in the drawing. Thanks. 😉

Boy, “Ingenious Pain” has my interest. I would like to read this book to see how the author handles the issue of pain. Fascinating, I would think. Thanks for entering me.
