Plans for May

May is going to be a very Orange month for me, as I continue to read all the books shortlisted for the Orange Prize this year.

I’m also joining Simon in reading Midnight’s Children and Sea of Poppies.

Remember my Half of a Yellow Sun Read-along starts tomorrow.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to squeeze much more into May, but I’ll try!

Are you planning to read any of the same books as me?

Did you enjoy all the books you read in April?

Thank you for reading my blog – I look forward to sharing more book related thoughts with you in the coming months!

That was a very productive month, especially since you loved so many of them. I’ve had a pretty good April as well. I just had to get through a couple of long books, then I started moving! As a side note, I am thinking about rating my books like you do. I’ve never done this before, and I’m not sure I’m consistent enough from mood to mood to do it justice, but I may try…

Oh I want to read Sea of Poppies also. That will probably the last of the Booker long list for me. Finally. If you and Simon are reading it it would be a good time for me to do it. Now I must find it. I bought the British copy because the cover was so beautiful.

Sandy – It’s always nice to get through a few long books isn’t it?

I look forward to seeing your new rating system – I sometimes find it hard to rate books – especially ones around the middle. What you really need is to rate books on several different factors – quality of writing, plot, ease of reading, etc. but having 4 or 5 different star ratings for each book would get a bit complicated, so I just go for an overall feeling. Sometimes I feel I’ve got it a bit wrong a few months later, but overall it is fairly good.

Candy – I hope you manage to find Sea of Poppies – I look forward to comparing notes with you.

Oh its here but I have thousands of books and I recently put up a new wall of empty shelves and have moved things around. So I just have to find it again. When are you starting. I have two review books on their way that I have to finish first. Plus I am reading a friend’s book at the moment and have to do the review.

You have had a great reading month! I envy readers who make plans for their reading – I try so hard to do that but when it comes to books I just get so sidetracked and end up reading all over the place! I am reading Drood at the moment and it is taking me a while to get through so I know I am going to need other reads through May to keep me going.

Hoorah! I am thinking of starting Midnights Children tomorrow… I know its a day earl but I want to crack it over the bank hols. Am pleased your joining in with those two… I will be joining in with the Orange shortlist, I just have to decide which one first!

Karen – Just because I write a plan doesn’t mean I’ll stick to it!! I don’t normally find it too bad though, as long as I can decide which order to read them in I can normally complete most of what I set out to do.

Simon – I’ve just started reading Midnight’s Children. It is going to be hard work to finish it in one weekend though. Wish me luck!

Candy – I’m planning to start Sea of Poppies at the end of next week. The idea is to finish it for Monday 11th I think.

How industrious you have been.

And my plans for May? I am going to ´cheat´ quite a bit as I will be very busy on two fronts: work + a writing course. So my theme for May is ´master mysteries´: re-reading crime novels I love but have not reviewed yet.

I wonder what other bloggers think about reviewing books which are not new to them?

Dorte – Reviewing books that you have already read is a great idea. Re-reading them will give you a much better appreciation of them, and so you should be able to write a better review. I hope you enjoy your writing course, have a great May!
